The Non-Surgical Nose Job

Nose jobs, nose reshaping, rhinoplasty – people have been having their noses changed and sculpted for years. These days, no one bats an eyelid when a celebrity appears with a new nose, and nose jobs in general have been hugely normalised. If you don’t like it, there are ways to change it. If it makes you happy, do it (safely!). There is now far less judgement and scandal with regard to surgery than there was perhaps 20 years ago. However, there is no denying that surgery is an invasive, painful and sometimes distressing process.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the procedure for correcting, altering, reshaping or reconstructing the nose. Until the turn of the century when non-surgical nose jobs were developed, rhinoplasty was primarily carried out through plastic surgery.

Rhinoplasty can be used for reconstructive and cosmetic purposes, either to correct and improve nasal function or to amend the appearance of the nose. From removing bumps, changing nostril shape and size, slimming down the nasal bridge and altering the shape of the tip, rhinoplasty can be used to achieve that ‘dream’ nose shape.

Surgical rhinoplasty recovery takes a total of 1 to 6 weeks depending on the procedure, including a 1 to 2 week period of downtime. The patient will be required to wear a splint for around a week, and pain medication may be required. In this time the cartilage and tissue in the nose are repairing, wounds are healing and swelling will reduce. Patients will usually experience ‘periorbital bruising’ or ‘panda eye bruising’ in this time.

How does a non-surgical nose job work?

As the name suggests, non-surgical rhinoplasty involves zero going under the knife, little to no anaesthetic and minimal downtime. Sometimes named the ‘15 minute nose job’, this form of rhinoplasty simply uses dermal filler to sculpt and shape the nose. The filler can be injected along the nasal bridge to even out a bumpy nose and make it appear straighter, around the end of the nose to give the illusion of a slimmer, more chiseled feature, or to lift the tip.

Hyaluronic acid dermal filler is used to inject the nose in the necessary areas, and the results of this are instant. At Elegant we mostly use dermal fillers from Juvéderm, which contain a minor local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort during treatment. Like most of our dermal filler treatments, this procedure generally will take a maximum of 30 minutes.

How long does it last? Is there any aftercare?

While a surgical rhinoplasty is permanent and tricky to reverse, dermal fillers will last anywhere between 6 and 12 months. This can be extended with repeat treatments, or if you’re undecided on the shape it will naturally dissolve in this time. As qualified and fully trained aestheticians at Elegant, we are also able to dissolve and reverse the results on request.

As with all of our treatments, we will provide you with aftercare instructions. However, downtime for non-surgical nose jobs and dermal fillers is minimal. Slight bruising, redness and tenderness is very common and will subside within a few days, so take gentle care and within 72 hours you should be feeling fully fabulous!
