Now is the best time to have a chemical peel – Here’s why

In summer, the basics of skincare are pretty self explanatory– protect yourself from the sun, wear SPF, stay hydrated and soak up that glorious vitamin D. Fabulous! Now, as we move into the gloomier months, it’s time to switch up our routines and make sure that our complexions are getting what they need to retain that gorgeous glow.

Skincare products can be a minefield; do I need to exfoliate? What’s a toner? Does moisturiser actually work? We could talk about it for hours, but in short our objective in winter is to nourish our skin back to radiance.

This winter especially, there are many factors that may contribute to our skin not looking and feeling its best. We’re spending more time inside, we’re getting less sunlight, we’re turning on the heating in our houses, we’re comfort eating and drinking, and many of us may be feeling stressed or anxious.

There’s a lot going on in the world at the moment, but little things like revitalising our skin can make a huge difference to the way we feel – which is why we’re super excited about winter chemical peels!

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a form of ‘skin peel’ treatment that uses a chemical solution to exfoliate, stimulate and invigorate your skin from the surface through to the deeper layers. This type of treatment works to resurface the skin’s texture, using a formula containing a number of highly effective acids, vitamins and antioxidants. During the treatment procedure, the chemical solution is applied topically to the skin – followed by hydrating and calming creams to minimise irritation.

The peel exfoliates the skin’s surface and stimulates within, helping to boost the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, plump and tighten, and reduce fine lines. Over the course of the next few days-post treatment, the skin will start to lightly peel and shed, revealing smooth and ultra-radiant skin beneath. This is a fantastic treatment for tackling scarring, age spots, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, dullness and lack of elasticity in the skin.

We offer a wonderful choice of chemical peels here at Elegant Beauty Clinic in Bournemouth.

From the revolutionary ZO 3 Step Skin Peel from ZO Medical, to innovative skin saviour The Perfect Peel. Your peel solution is created bespoke and can be tailored to you and your skin condition to target specific issues, for example enlarged pores, blackheads, oiliness and dryness.

Depending on the results that you’re looking for, skin type and tolerance level, there are various intensities of peel to choose from; superficial, medium and deep. The deeper the peel, the more distinct the results – however, it is important to note that choosing a more intense peel can also mean longer downtime and higher possibility of irritation. Skin peels are safe and medically sound, but must always be carried out by a fully qualified medical practitioner after a full consultation.

Which chemical skin peels do you offer?

At the Elegant Beauty Clinic we offer the ZO 3 Step Skin Peel and The Perfect Peel. These are both fantastic chemical peel treatments which each produce results that will see your skin glowing, healthy and smooth.

The team at ZO Medical have produced a 3-step chemical peel that really gets down to the nitty-gritty of healthy skin. Firstly the acid solution is applied to the skin, boosting hydration and minimising inflammation. This is followed up with a stimulating retinol cream, helping to stimulate collagen production and boost the skin from a deeper level. Lastly, a calming cream is applied to help relieve and rehydrate the skin post-treatment. Exfoliate, stimulate, hydrate.

The Perfect Peel combines glutathione, kojic acid, TCA, phenol and retinoic Acid in a formula that has never been seen in chemical peels before. This unique concoction is a powerhouse of antioxidants, brightening agents and anti-ageing solutions that produce impressive results.

What are the benefits of having a chemical peel in the winter?

Chemical peels are one of our favourite skin treatments all year round, however there are certain benefits to having a peel during the winter.

Not only are peels a route to regaining that beautiful radiance and glow, but they are also super effective for boosting the general health of your skin. Having a chemical peel treatment in the winter is a great way to remove dirt, debris, oil and dead skin that has built up during the summer, allowing your skin to become more receptive to your winter skin care products.

What good are your favourite serums, cleansers and moisturisers if they’re being blocked by clogged pores? Think of your winter skin peel as switching out your summer wardrobe – cleaning, refreshing and replenishing ahead of the new season.

The days may be shorter and we’re already missing the sunny weather, but it is important to note that even in the colder months, chemical peels can make your skin extra sensitive to the sun. However UV levels in winter are lower and we’re spending more time indoors– so there’s no better time to kick start your AW2020 beauty routines with a peel.

There’s nothing like that freshly-peeled complexion; healthy, smooth, firm and glowing with minimised pores– the perfect base for makeup! Which is why chemical peels are one of our favourite treatments in the lead up to party season.

Christmas parties may look a little different this year, but nothing has to stop you from feeling your very best! You’ve booked your hair appointment, you’re already shopping for outfits, you’re planning your festive nails– why not book in for a chemical peel too? Just make sure that you time it right to allow for at least 7-10 days of downtime before your special event, to ensure that your peel has finished and that your results are at their most glorious.

Whether you’re looking for a one-off treatment or you’re planning to introduce peels as a regular fixture in your skincare calendar, chemical peels in Bournemouth produce beautiful results after just one session – which can last for several weeks to months depending on your skin and treatment intensity.

Are you interested in trying your first chemical peel this winter? As always, if you have any questions or would like to know more information please get in touch or book a free consultation.
